Hey Dave, I'm not sure if this comment got misdirected to here rather than my health & fitness blog naturallyengineered.com but that's no problem.

Chances are, you aren't letting your heel fully descend at the middle of the landing phase of your stride. That will cause some pretty intense calf soreness, fairly quickly. I have a video here explaining some of this: http://www.youtube.com/user/NaturallyEngineered

I recently purchased a pair of Five-Fingers to try to start running again. I ran in HS and tried to make a top 25 D1 XC team, but had a big (and late) growth spurt, and the mileage in the 70's was ridiculous. I cycle mostly, but spend most of my time as a freelance graphic designer at the computer. I live across the highway from Lake Hefner in OK City. The heat here has been stifling, but I have gone out about 8 times on flat grass, but the last time I tried running on a mountain bike trail, as I always loved hill running. That was ten days ago. About a mile in, my calf ceased up. I can not get my calf to fully relax, or work out the knot.

Anyway, I want to get back to running again, as I have no knee pain with Five-Fingers shoes, and have struggled for years with the best orthotics available.

I am open to suggestion,
Dave
